ARE YOUR TYRES SAFE?

When you think that your tyres are the only point of contact your vehicle has with the road you can appreciate why it is vitally important that you select the right tyre type for the vehicle you are driving and for the purpose it is being used.

A decrease in tyre tread depth leads to the deterioration of the tyre's performance during cornering and braking, which means the tyre is unable to transmit traction and braking forces to the road as effectively. Driving with worn or damaged tyres could cost you £2,500 and 3 penalty points.

This service offers a free of charge check to maintain tyre quality and safety.

It includes:

  • expert assessment from our trained technicians
  • advice on estimated remaining life of your tyres

For safety reasons it is recommended that you replace your tyres before the legal limit is reached. Many vehicle manufacturers recommend replacing at 3 millimetres. At 1.6 millimetres in wet weather it takes an extra car length (8 metres) to stop at 50 mph than if your tread was 3 millimetres.

The Tyre Law

When tyres become worn or damaged they must be replaced. The legal limit for minimum depth of the tread on your tyres is 1.6 millimetres, across the central ¾ of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre.  There must be no damage to the tyre body - sidewalls or tread, no bulges or cuts.
